5 Summer Trends You Can Still Wear in Fall

August 25, 2016

*This post is sponsored by Payless. As always, all opinions are my own.

I know, I know…you’re eager for those pumpkin spice lattes, the smell of pine cones in the air, and the opportunity to wear your most cozy comfy sweaters. I’m right there with you! Believe me. I’ve expressed many many times that my most favorite season is fall. So while my heart is happy envisioning myself being wrapped up in a plaid blanket scarf for the next few months, reality sets in. I live in South Florida. It is H-O-T outside. And the only use I have for a blanket scarf at this moment in time is in my home, with the air-conditioning set low, while I sit on my couch and catch up on Bachelor in Paradise!

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve definitely been transitioning my wardrobe little by little. I’m embracing fall colors and rocking my booties every chance I get. I even gave myself a manicure in my new favorite color that has autumn written all over it. But before you completely put summer behind you and start reorganizing your closet, keep in mind that you can still wear some of your favorite items from the last few months into the new season.

OPEN TOE SHOES

Let’s discuss, shall we? Open toe shoes can be appropriate for fall. Believe it or not, this even includes sandals. I’m not talking about flip flops. You can save those for your next tropical vacation or to wear in the community shower in your dorm hall. Gladiator, lace-up, and embellished sandals can absolutely be worn until the weather truly starts to get cool. Just like anything else in fashion, it’s not just what you wear, but how you wear it. Smart pairings and a confident attitude makes all the difference. You can bet Harley will be wearing her embellished sandals until they don’t fit her anymore! She’s obsessed with them!

I’m addicted to open toe booties! Aren’t the Payless ones pictured above the perfect color for fall?! The chunky heel makes it more sturdy and comfortable to wear. They look great with jeans, dresses, and skirts. It’s funny…about a week before Payless reached out to me for this collaboration, I had quickly walked passed a Payless store at my local mall and noticed how cute the shoes in the window were. Because I was in a rush, I didn’t stop in, but a mental note was made to go back in there and take a look. While browsing their website there were tons of styles I wanted to get, especially for Harley! So, I’m super happy to be partnering with them on this post to show you guys these adorable and affordable shoes!

Another open toe shoe you should consider keeping around a bit longer is the wedged sandal. Wedges look awesome paired with flared jeans. And lastly, you can take your favorite peep toe heels and wear them with black or colored stockings. Say Whatttt?!!! Yes, stockings! As long as they don’t have a reinforced toe and your outfit looks intentional, you’ll be good to go. With that being said, while it’s still toasty outside during this transitional period, I would refrain from wearing stockings or tights. Let those toesies breathe!!

OFF SHOULDER TOPS

Yep. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Cold shoulder and off shoulder tops are here to stay. Can we get an AMEN?! The white one I’m wearing from Chicwish is such a great basic top to have that goes with so many things! As the temps start to cool down, I’ll probably throw on a utility vest or cardigan. There are tons of off shoulder tops that come in thicker and warmer fabrics, as well as 3/4 or long sleeves. Here are some fall appropriate options:

TASSEL EARRINGS

Tassels were all the rage last summer AND this summer. From earrings to necklaces to bracelets and all sorts of clothing, people just can’t get enough! But there’s no reason to stop wearing them. Just swap out the neon for pretty berry shades, earth tones, neutrals, and deep rich hues. I’ve been eyeing this Lele Sedoughi pair for awhile now and also love all of these more affordable options below:

DENIM SHORTS

I absolutely love denim shorts for fall! The majority of the time, I’ll wear them with a mule or bootie. The Payless booties I’m wearing in today’s post would look awesome with jean shorts! Over the knee boots paired with denim cut offs make a really sexy and cool statement. If you’re worried about being cold, just throw on a pair of stockings underneath! Again, it’s all about choosing the right pieces that compliment each other and having the confidence to own your look.

As far as what to wear on the top, the choices are endless. Blazers, moto jackets, utility vests, and cardigans are all great layering pieces. You’ll definitely be seeing me in long sleeve plaid shirts and chunky cable knits when rocking my denim shorts this fall.

WHITE

By now I thought we’d all be on the same page about this. You CAN wear white after labor day and SHOULD wear white after labor day!! White is a year round classic color. Do be conscientious about the type of fabric your white [off white, winter white] item is to make sure it’s weather appropriate. If it’s a bit thin, just layer it with a heavier and warmer article of clothing.
