Bump Day: 14 Weeks

14 Weeks pregnant

Since announcing our pregnancy, it has been overwhelming to receive so much love from everyone!  I can’t even begin to explain how appreciative Casey and I are of all of the support [and how thrilled I am to not keep it a secret anymore]!!  This may sound a little shallow, but I’m also glad that people know I have a baby inside of me instead of thinking I put on a few pounds.  Say what you want, but I’m sure there are other preggers out there who understand how I feel.  My body has changed so quickly and I’m doing the best I can to embrace it, but it can be tough at times.  I made the mistake of ordering a few maternity dresses on ASOS.com because they were having a sale.  I figured it would be good to have a couple of items in my closet that I can transition into as the belly grows, but HELL – NO…they went back immediately.  In fact, I don’t think I have ever been so quick to go to the post office and return something.  I was in such disbelief by the amount of fabric these dresses had and it was so hard to imagine fitting in them, even though one of these days it’s gonna happen.  I’m going to hold off on the maternity wear for as long as possible.

14 Week Update:  Baby C is the size of my closed fist or a large lemon [between 3 and 4 inches long].  He or she can squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his or her thumb.  Even though the baby is doing a ton of moving, I can’t feel it yet.  They say I should probably start to feel movement at 16 weeks which is right around the corner and I’m really looking forward to that.  I still feel wonderful and am happy to report that I sailed into my second trimester without any nausea or sickness.

Exercise & Diet:  My workouts slacked big time the first 12 weeks.  From what my MD and friends have told me, and on top of what I have read, it is very common to be tired and even exhausted your first trimester as your body is working overtime.  I can’t say that I was exhausted, but my energy levels were certainly lower than norm, and to be honest, the winter blues didn’t help at all.  I wish I had weighed myself right before getting pregnant or as soon as we found out we were expecting, but I’m pretty sure I have gained 4-5 lbs.  Some people loose weight during their first trimester if they’re experiencing nausea and/or vomiting, but my appetite was never poor.  So far, I haven’t had any major cravings other than oranges and fresh squeezed orange juice.  I miss sushi and I really really miss wine!
