I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am to FINALLY be sharing today’s post with you!
When Casey and I moved into our home two years ago, creating our own wine cellar underneath the staircase was a thought, an idea, and a dream. Most neighbors with the same model home utilized that space for extra storage, or a little office nook. While both of those are smart ideas, Casey and I wanted something that would make a bigger statement.
Like many home owners, we had [and still have] all of these grand plans and projects in mind. Casey was focused on making the backyard look like an oasis, and I on the other hand cared more about custom closets and pretty decor. The reality is, these things take time and money. So, just because we wanted a wine cellar in our home didn’t necessarily mean it was happening, at least any time soon.
And Then One Day…
About 6 months after moving in, I went out for a run in the neighborhood. Came home, to find a huge hole cut out of our wall, with Casey [my husband], and Harley [my daughter] INSIDE of the wall! Needless to say, I was a bit shocked.
After the wall was cut, the room slowly started coming together. And, when I say slowly, I really mean slowly!! Casey pretty much did this entire project himself. Fortunately [for me], he’s very handy!
These were the next steps [in order] taken:
- Added electricity
- Framed the room
- Sheet rocked
- Corner beaded
- Spackled
- Painted
- Laid tile floor: San Juan Azul Porcelain Tile from Floor and Decor
- Grouted
- Had glass doors and front glass wall installed by a local professional
- Installed wine racks [which I will get into more detail in just a second…]
I would definitely recommend hiring professionals for any or all of the steps that might be outside your knowledge, skills, and comfort zone.
The final step we have yet to take, is to install a cooling system. We are currently speaking to a professional company to discuss our options. I will keep you posted on what we decide!
One of the reasons we took forever to complete this space is because Casey and I were not always on the same page with what we wanted it to look like. He wanted something more traditional, using wooden racks, and I wanted something more modern… originally thinking acrylic pegs. After searching the internet, Pinterest, and Instagram images for hours upon hours, we finally decided on the brushed nickel wall mount series from Vintage View.
The Final Product…
We honestly could not be happier with how the room came out! Vintage View was amazing to work with from start to finish.
Our wine cellar is seriously such a WOW feature, and has completely transformed the first level of our home! I can’t believe our dream vision is an actual reality!!
Below is a video of the start to finish wine rack installation process:
*A huge thanks to Vintage View for gifting us the wine racking system! The reason I wanted to work with Vintage View was because of a personal recommendation from a friend. They sure did not disappoint, and I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking to create a wine wall or wine room in their home.
Cheers!!
It’s amazing!!! You and Casey are so handy I can’t wait to see what part of your home you guys tackle next!
