I recently started cleaning my closet, trying to purge anything and everything that I don’t need. My bra drawer had been stuffed with more bras than I can count, yet I was wearing the same two practically every day. These bras were the same ones I had been wearing pre babies, during my breastfeeding days, and well after. They were worn. They didn’t fit right. They needed to go.
So, I ran over to my local Macy’s, and got fitted by Gabriela, a Wacoal Specialist. She was SO HELPFUL! She explained to me how a bra is supposed to fit, and then broke the news that I had been wearing the wrong size all this time. While I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, when Gabriela brought me the correct size [a 32DD], I was shocked how much better it was! The bra was more comfortable, my girls looked a little perkier, and there was no breast tissue spilling out from the top of the bra, like it did previously [bye bye quad boobs]. The back part of the bra stayed perfectly straight across my back versus lifting up in the middle. The front, center part of the bra sat perfectly flat against my skin. Again, there were all of these little changes for the better.
Fun fact: When you buy a new bra, the back band should be firm fitting, and the loosest setting should be the most comfortable. You should only be able to fit two fingers underneath. If you can fasten the tighter hooks comfortably in the first wear, then the bra most likely is too big around the back. Typical bras have 3 settings. The tightest hook is designed to be used once your bra is old and worn out, and the elastic has stretched out. So, start with the loosest setting, and gradually work your way to the tightest setting over time. This will allow you to get maximum support and longevity out of your bras. Thanks Gabriela for this little lesson!!
After trying on tons of options, my favorite style hands down is the Wacoal Lace Affair T-Shirt Bra for an every day bra. The Lace Affair T-Shirt Bra has smooth cups with beautiful lace detail, making it functional and pretty. It’s perfect for underneath tees, knits, and even some of my lower cut tops. This particular style has a low cut center, and thin, yet supportive straps. I ended up getting it in every color because it’s THAT GOOD!!
I’m also happy to report that I’ve found my new go to strapless! The Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless can be worn 5 different ways. The best part about it is, it actually STAYS UP!! A strapless bra, that actually stays up! Imagine that?!!
Thanks again to Gabriela and Wacoal for blowing my mind with this whole bra fitting experience! I’ve donated all of those bras that were taking up space in my drawer to a local women’s shelter, where they can be loved and used. I really do encourage each and every one of you ladies to go and get yourself fitted!! I think most of you will be pleasantly surprised like I was!
