Before I get into my living room details, I have to first make fun of myself for a hot second. I have literally been sitting at my computer for hours, contemplating what style decor this room ended up being. Is it modern? Is it rustic? Oh, I really hope it’s chic!! But, there are some African-ish details in here too, so is there such a thing as Modern Rustic African Chic?! Like, how many adjectives can I put in this title?!

Anyhoo, our overall home style is definitely transitional… a mixture of both modern and traditional. We truly like elements from so many different style types, and I think we’re figuring out a way to incorporate it all, while still having a cohesive home.

Let’s talk about this wall…

I first discovered Stikwood on Pinterest, and instantly became obsessed. Even before seeing our home and putting an offer on it, Casey and I knew we wanted to incorporate Stikwood somehow, someway. It was right up there with installing custom closets. Once we finally knew which house would be ours, we went back and forth about placing it in our bedroom or living room. Ultimately, we chose the latter because we knew it would be such a statement and “wow” factor in our home.

Every single person who visits for the first time, makes a comment about the wall and how magnificent it is. And, then continues to inquire about it; where we got it, how we installed it, if it comes in other colors, etc., etc.. So, here are some basic questions and answers, but feel free to visit their site for more info HERE.

What is Stikwood?

Stikwood is the world’s first Peel & Stik reclaimed and sustainable wood planking and wall art used in commercial and residential design.

Is it Easy To Install?

Yes! Casey installed this by himself one night. I think he jammed out to some tunes, poured himself a large glass of Cabernet, and got to work. With that being said, a miter saw is needed to cut each end piece and also some smaller pieces around the outlets, soooo if you are not used to using a saw or if you’re not handy at all, then you will definitely want to find someone who is!

How many colors/finishes are there? And which do we have?

22 options! We have the Reclaimed Weathered Wood White.

And now on to the pillows…

Oh, what a fight this was with Casey! He HATES throw pillows. I love them. Happy Wife, Happy Life… guess who won this battle?! 😉

Fortunately, I was able to work with my friend, Emma from Defined Designs to create the perfect ones for this space. Emma is the Interior Designer and Blogger behind Defined Designs, who recently opened up her own pillow shop on Etsy. We met a few years ago at a networking event after Casey and I shortly moved to Charlotte. She’s just the sweetest and we’ve remained friends since the first night we met!

Emma is currently working on custom pillows for our kitchen nook and master bedroom. I can’t wait to show you both of those spaces once completed!

The rest of the space…

The rest of the space is a combination of old and new. The couches were our first big purchase together as boyfriend and girlfriend seven years ago, when we moved into our first apartment in Long Island. The coffee table was gifted to us from Casey’s cousins. We thought it was a really cool and unique piece.

I linked the majority of our decor above, just underneath the photos, but if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask!

I’m really wanting some new coffee table books, and found the best selection here. Problem is, I want them all! [Help me decide please!!] Other than that, I think this room is basically complete! Casey and I feel really good about it, and absolutely love spending time in this room. It’s a Modern Rustic Chic with African Flare success! Haha!!
